UNESCO: 71st Anniversary
On May 25, an event titled "UNESCO: 71st Anniversary" was held at the "Entanik" Youth Creative Center. Its goal was to emphasize the role and importance of artistic education, familiarize teenagers with Armenian values included in the UNESCO World Cultural List, and promote the cultural, aesthetic, patriotic education, and well-rounded development of youth. The participants presented four of UNESCO's Armenian intangible cultural values: "Traditional Bread Making of Lavash," "Duduk and its Music," "Armenian Cross-Stones Art: Symbolism and Craftsmanship of Khachkars," and the "Daredevils of Sassoun" or "David of Sassoun" epic. After listening to interesting legends about lavash, the children watched the animated film "The Magical Lavash." Next, students of the duduk club introduced the apricot pipe (tsiranapogh) as an ancient instrument. They performed folk songs, which was followed by a screening of a video film about the merit-worthy masters of the Armenian duduk. The secrets, history, and carved crosses of Armenian khachkar making were presented by students of the woodworking club. The video film "The Khachkar Maker" sparked great interest among the students. A summary description of the epic and a screening of the "David of Sassoun" animated film brought a special spirit to those present. Despite being multifaceted, the event carried at its core the story of a people whose creative mind is boundless. M. Khachatryan
