“Trndez” at the “Yntaniq” Center
On February 14, forty days after the Nativity of Christ, the Armenian Apostolic Church celebrates the Feast of the Presentation of the Forty-Day-Old Infant Jesus at the Temple, known as Trndez.
Remaining faithful to the traditions of the Church and Armenian folk customs, the “Yntaniq” Children and Youth Creative Center celebrated Trndez with great solemnity.
The festive atmosphere in the Center’s courtyard, the joyful spirit of spring, and the desire to experience the spiritual meaning of the feast brought together the faithful community—including students, parents, educators, and residents of the neighborhood.
This religious and folk celebration was marked by a series of symbolic traditional rituals. The participants first presented the meaning of the feast, as well as preserved Armenian folk traditions and customs. They then invited the audience to join the celebration through beautiful traditional dances and national and folk songs.
The festive atmosphere was further enriched by a “wedding” performance, the distribution of roasted wheat (aghands), and the traditional lighting of the bonfire, symbolizing the saving light of Christ. Singing hymns and holding lit candles, the participants formed a traditional circle dance around the fire, symbolizing the awakening of nature and heralding the arrival of spring.
The event concluded at St. Hakob of Nisibis Church, where the students met with Rev. Father Pavstos Sargsyan. The priest shared additional details about the spiritual meaning and rituals of the feast, gave his blessing, and wished everyone that the true light of Jesus Christ would illuminate their minds and warm their souls.
