“Gyumri Winter” Celebration and Bun Barekendan

On February 7, the city celebrated a unique festival. The traditional “Gyumri Winter” celebration was held in the area of the Mother Armenia Memorial Complex in Gyumri and, this year, coincided with the traditional Armenian church festival of Bun Barekendan.

The event brought together high-ranking city officials, clergy, educational, cultural, public, and youth organizations. Each institution presented itself through its own pavilion and artistic performances.

The Gyumri “Yntaniq” Children and Youth Creative Center also participated in the celebration with traditional Armenian dishes characteristic of the occasion, a theatrical performance, songs, and dances. Students from the Center’s theater group presented Hovhannes Tumanyan’s play “Barekendan” for the gathered audience. The talented young performers captivated those present, as well as representatives of the mass media, attracting a large audience. Through their performance, the future young actors conveyed joy, entertainment, and the festive spirit of the occasion.

The response to the event confirmed that Barekendan has long been one of the most beloved Armenian celebrations.

The Center also presented a variety of traditional dolls and characters associated with the festival, along with works representing different branches of Armenian folk arts and crafts. These displays generated particular interest and admiration among visitors.
