In today’s world, knowledge of foreign languages, and particularly the study of French, can be considered a necessity. Armenia is regarded as a Francophone country, and the promotion of the French language creates valuable opportunities for strengthening Armenian-French friendship and cooperation.

Throughout the French language program, special attention is paid to grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary development. The program consists of both theoretical and practical components. During the learning process, students consolidate and develop their grammatical knowledge, skills, and abilities. Particular emphasis is placed on developing oral communication skills, as spoken French is one of the fundamental components of language proficiency.

Since the word is an essential unit of speech development, mastery of vocabulary forms the foundation for effective communication. Vocabulary reflects the content and meaning of speech. Particular attention is therefore given to words, their meanings, accurate word usage, semantic and grammatical relationships between words, figurative language, and the role of words and grammatical forms within sentences.

All of these elements contribute to the development of coherent speech, enrichment of vocabulary, enhancement of students’ logical and linguistic thinking, and reinforcement and further development of the knowledge acquired at school.

Special attention is also devoted to phonetics, lexicology and phraseology, syntax, text composition, and coherent speech. Practical language proficiency and the ability to apply theoretical knowledge in real-life communication are considered essential components of the program.

OBJECTIVES

  • Introduce French as a foreign language, while consistently drawing parallels with the students’ native language.
  • Introduce students to French civilization, national traditions, and customs.
  • Promote and develop the ability to work through a variety of individual and collaborative learning methods.
  • Present the history of the development of the French language, the general history of France, its historical and cultural heritage, and the origins of Armenian-French friendship.
  • Introduce students to the lives, activities, and works of prominent French figures, including representatives of various fields of art, writers, prominent political figures, and others.
  • Develop linguistic thinking.
  • Develop oral and written communication skills and foster the ability to communicate freely.
  • Develop listening, comprehension, perception, and speaking skills.
  • Develop the ability to effectively apply acquired knowledge and skills.
  • Encourage students’ cognitive and creative activities.
  • Promote the development of individual and teamwork skills.
  • Develop students’ aesthetic appreciation through the presentation of historical and cultural heritage.
  • Support appropriate pre-vocational orientation and career choice.
  • Develop the ability to respond quickly and appropriately to different situations, as well as listening skills and an awareness of healthy competition.
  • Introduce students to the content of the texts studied during the program and enrich their thematic vocabulary.
  • Strengthen grammatical knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Develop analytical thinking regarding the strengthening of Armenian-French relations and the study of the French language.
  • Foster a dedicated and responsible attitude toward the state and the homeland.
  • Ensure meaningful and purposeful engagement of students.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon completion of the program, students should:

  • Recognize the role and importance of the French language in the modern world;
  • Be able to communicate in French;
  • Have a certain level of pre-vocational orientation;
  • Become familiar with French culture and the distinctive features of the French language;
  • Apply grammatical knowledge and skills in both oral and written communication;
  • Gain a sound understanding of the language and use it effectively in communication;
  • Improve and correct deficiencies in French pronunciation;
  • Be able to reproduce the content of texts they have read using clear and simple language;
  • Actively participate in a variety of cultural events.

PROGRAM DURATION

One year

Through discussions, debates, and group activities, students become familiar with the intricacies and nuances of the French language while developing their communication, critical-thinking, and collaborative skills.
