Ascension Day celebration at St. Hovhannes Church in Marmashen

Ascension Day celebrations begin on the third day of the week, which is called “Flower Sunday.” On that day, the participants in the event gathered flowers from the territory of the Marmashen monastery complex, then the teenage girls went around the village with a jug, singing, from house to house, each one throwing their own symbol, some ornament, or other item, into the jug. At the end of the ritual, the jug was kept under the open sky overnight, as a sign that everyone’s luck would be poured into the fortune-telling and fortune-telling jug.
